Announcement: Clean Cities Solidarity March

The Clean Cities Project is excited to confirm that the Clean Cities Solidarity March will take place on June 14, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, starting from Lilongwe Community Centre Ground and proceeding to the Town Hall. This event will attract a diverse range of participants, including government representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, the city council, top celebrities, industry leaders, vendors, youth organizations, students, and the general public.

Objective

The objective of the march remains steadfast: we are advocating for the right to a clean and healthy environment in our city. It is important to emphasize that this march is not against the government, the city council, individual personnel, or any other entity. We are united in our commitment to protect and promote urban cleanliness.

We recognize that every right comes with its own responsibilities. Therefore, all stakeholders—government, industries, vendors, youth, and the general public—have a role in ensuring a clean and healthy environment in Lilongwe. This march is a demonstration of our collective responsibility and solidarity in achieving this goal.

The march will also involve engaging with the general public and sensitizing them on waste separation when using the bins. Additionally, there will be a small-scale cleaning exercise and litter picking throughout the march to set a practical example.

Authorization has been sought from the Lilongwe City Council, who will join us in this effort. For security, don’t worry—we have secured support from the Lilongwe Police Station, who will provide officers to ensure safety and optimize traffic flow.

We invite everyone to join us in this important cause. Come one, come all. Let’s march together in solidarity for a cleaner Lilongwe!
