Post-March Success Announcement: Clean Cities Solidarity March

We are thrilled to announce that the Clean Cities Solidarity March which we organised was a tremendous success! The turnout was impressive, with youths from all parts of Lilongwe City showing up to demonstrate against improper waste management and to hold stakeholders accountable for their actions towards poor waste management and lack of sanitation in Lilongwe City.

Beyond the demonstrations, participants took action by cleaning critical areas within the city, setting a powerful example of how our cities and communities should be. Their dedication and hard work have set a strong precedent for sustainable waste management practices.

Key Outcomes and Success of the Clean Cities Solidarity March:

  1. Impressive Turnout
    Over 300 enthusiastic participants(160 Females and 140Males), including youths from all parts of Lilongwe City, environmental advocates, government officials, waste collection companies, vendors, media houses and the general public, joined the march. Their presence highlighted a strong community commitment to tackling waste management issues.
  2. Effective Demonstrations
    Participants voiced their concerns about the current state of waste management and sanitation in Lilongwe, holding stakeholders accountable and advocating for the implementation and enforcement of better policies.
  3. Hands-on Action
    Beyond demonstrations, participants actively cleaned critical areas within the city, setting a powerful example of community-led action. This initiative demonstrated the collective responsibility and immediate steps we can all take to improve our environment.

4. Stakeholder Engagement
The march successfully engaged multiple stakeholders, including the Lilongwe City Council and private waste collection companies, fostering collaboration and dialogue on effective waste management strategies.

5. Momentum for Future Initiatives
Building on the success of the march, we are excited to announce the scaling up of the WASTE TO ART INITIATIVE. Under this initiative, we train students, youths, and street kids to recycle waste materials into art, providing them with valuable skills and financial support. This initiative aims to further promote environmental sustainability, waste management and economic empowerment within our community.
